9.6.12 Magazine Sale and KT Basketball

Joe's school has their annual magazine sale going on.  Thanks to those of you who ordered magazines, and some of you will receive a postcard in the mail inviting you to order.  Joey's school receives 40% of the magazine price, which is awesome. If you receive the postcard, I believe they direct you to order online, and there's a school code.  The cool thing about this, is that you don't have to order now.  You can order any time throughout the year, and Joey's school will receive the 40%.
Here's Joe with his "rewards"...a lanyard with a collection of assorted duck and penguin characters, along with the 3 foot bubblegum he received for Emily's People magazine renewal...

I have given Emily the People subscription for about three years for her birthday.  Yes, it's spendy, because it's a weekly publication. However, the best renewal price postcards I'm receiving are only $6 dollars less than the magazine sale price, and Joey's school gets 40%.  I just renewed now, instead of December. The prices are very good, and there are a lot of "duo" offers where you can get two magazines for the price of one.  Worth looking at.

One of my coworkers is a former college basketball player.  Recently he started "KT Basketball."  He has done skill building clinics for high school aged players before, and also offers one to one lessons.  He decided to branch down into younger ages, because his son is a kindergartener this year.  I signed Joey up for the K-3 session, T and Thursday nights from 6-7 for the month of September.  Joey is enjoying it.  One thing the coach has learned, is that K-3 is a very broad developmental age spread.  Joey and a few of the other kids have superior listening skills and focus, and it's hard for the youngest ones to stay on task.  Following this, I believe I may sign him up for the new park and rec program, which is 1st and 2nd graders, Monday nights, 6-7 p.m., October through Dec. I like the one hour a week exposure.  It's physical exercise, learning new skills, and again, learning to listen and respectfully participate with peers and trusted adults, outside your own family.  Every child is different, and you just try to find what they like and support them in what they do.  On that note, the first Scout Pack Meeting is Sunday night.  Here we go for another year!  I will be the Wolf Scout Den leader.
