6.8.13 Scout Day Camp

I'm really pushing it, trying to get the entire month of June updated.  But I'm on a roll, so I'll keep going.  The theme this year was "Under the Sea." The weather was not the best.  It rained throughout the day.
This is the bbgun range.
Archery range...God bless this man.  I don't know his name, but he has done the BB gun and archery stations every year.

With the rain, we had to come inside for some alternate activities.  They put out these little ocean figurines and seashells, would have the boys look, then close their eyes.  The leader would remove something from the table, and the scouts would have to guess what was missing.
Joe, left side.
Below, kind of blurry, but leather craft work.

6.8.13 Matthew's first attempts

In the basement, we have the 16 inch bike with training wheels that we gave Zach for his 4th birthday.  Zach, Katie, Emily, and Joe all learned to ride on this bike. We thought we should bring it up and see if Matthew could get started with riding.  He had a hard time with  peddling.  We will keep trying!

Here's a smile!
Thank you Grandpa Dan, for putting on the training wheels.
We so love Matthew Thomas.  We enjoy spending time with him, and are always sad to see him go again!

6.7.13 Gender reveal party!

June 7th was our anniversary.  What better way to celebrate than by having all our family together.  We were all at the Beckers, even Eleanor and Estell.  We brought food for potluck, and the kids enjoyed the pool.  The Beckers are wonderful hosts!  Mauri and Sherri had made buttons, and we wore our predictions with "It's a girl" and "It's a boy" pins.  I admit, I guessed wrong.  The balloons below show our response to the news that it is a boy.!  Matt and Mauri share their happy news, that Baby Heesch is a boy!
Laura Osterloo took wonderful photos that night.  I took these from Mauri's facebook page.I love Laura's work, and it's nice to have these pictures as Matt and Mauri start their family.
Copngratulations Matt and Mauri!
Baby Heesch, we all came together to welcome you! You are greatly loved and awaited.

6.2.13 Last day of vacation, and heading home.

Grandpa Bill always loved steam engines, and trains.  This is a fascination shared by Matthew Thomas!  Grandpa always made sure our kids got to ride the 1880 train.  We decided that one way ride would be best for Matthew, as it is over an hour ride one way.  I rode on the train with Joe and Matthe, and Dan drove along the road, taking photos when the train crossed, and meeting us in Keystone.
Here comes the engine!
There is the water tower for the steam engine to fill up.
They have made some nice improvements, such as this covered, shaded area for people to stand in line to board the train. It was hard for Matthew to stand in line!

Matthew, showing a little apprehension!

Pretty train cars! Mr. Conductor.
Leaving the station.

We had fun looking for Grandpa Dan at the crossings!
First siting!
Up the steep hill...I think I can, I think I can.
So pretty.
We packed a lot into having Matthew for one day of the trip.
We stopped at a McDonalds. (Yes, again. We know how to feed hungry boys on the road.)
Before we hit the interstate, both boys were asleep. Vacation success!  Note the back seat of the van.

6.1.13 Black Hills vacation, day 4

On June 1st, we drove north to Belle to pick up Matthew Thomas.  We enjoyed visiting with Leah, Matthew's grandma Cindy, his cousin Olivia, and of course, meeting his beautiful new sister, Vivianne!
We stopped in Spearfish and drove through McDonald's for happy meals, for the hungry boys.
On our way south again, we drove along highway 385, and veered off on Rimrock highway to take in "Thunderhead Falls."  This was originally a gold mine claim, but the partners struck water instead of gold. We weren't there long, but it was a nice half hour out of the car, for the boys to walk around.
Waterfall outside, the best part!

Immediately upon arriving back at Palmer Gulch, we took Matthew to see the horses.

More inclusive resort fun...an inflatable bouncing/jumping pillow. Matthew in yellow shirt.
They also had this spray water park, and a pool.
Matthew, Grandpa Dan, Jump!

And uncle Joe.
Back to the cabin.  Here are the bunks, which Matthew and Joe thought were awesome!
And the kitchenette...cool digs!
Another fun activity that night after we ate, was watching a movie at their little theater.  There is a scheduled movie every evening.  you sit on wooden benches.  Popcorn is a dollar.
Dan wanted to do a campfire for the boys on the last night.

Boys on the deck...having a bedtime snack.
Ready for bed.
